When traveling with my family over the Thanksgiving Holiday I spent four nights in four separate beds: 3 states, 2 hotel rooms, 1 stop at the in-laws, and 1 stop at a friend’s house. While the weekend was a whirlwind of visits, it did help to inspire some thought behind this blog.
Whether you’re a global traveler, or a homebody, everyone can agree that nothing beats home sweet home and your own bed—it’s a perfect fit! The same goes for your career.
If your current job leaves you feeling like any of the descriptions below, it’s time to re-evaluate the situation.
Lumpy
I am sure many have slept in the “lumpy bed”; you know, the one where no matter which way you turn and roll over it never feels right and you wake up in the morning with a sore back.
Are you currently in a position at work where no matter which way you turn it’s never the right decision?
Deflated
Maybe it’s like you are sleeping on an air matress, where you wake up in the morning and all the air is deflated and you are basically laying on the ground (I hope I am not the only one with this problem).
Are you currently in a position at work where in the morning you wake-up feeling discouraged and uninspired?
Constricting
How about the bed that is way to small? Maybe you have to share, or maybe your feet hang over the edges.
Are you in a position at work where you feel like you have limited resources and are pigeon holed in your career progression?
Distracting
Maybe it’s like you are laying in the squeaky and noisy bed. The bed where you can’t make any sudden moves or you will wake up the entire house.
At work do you feel distracted? Do you feel that every move you make someone is fighting for your attention and that nothing can ever be accomplished because of outside minutia?
If you answered any of these questions with “yes”, is it time to explore new opportunities? You owe it to yourselfto find the “perfect fit” in your career, and I wish you safe travels this holiday season.
