A local independent educational institution is hiring an on-site Jr. Art Director in the Baltimore, MD market area for a full-time, direct hire opportunity.

Jr. Art Director Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of graphic design experience, preferably in an education, EdTech, Publishing, or another relevant field or setting.
  • A strong resume AND portfolio demonstrating your skills in branding, heavy print, and some digital design, with a clear focus on exceptional typography and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), and a working knowledge of video editing software (Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, etc.).
  • Experience with DSLR/mirrorless photography and photo editing.
  • Strong familiarity with design and content management platforms such as Canva, Adobe Express, and Google Slides.
  • Enthusiasm for engaging in the life of the educational community and supporting its mission.
  • Solid understanding of typography, layout, color theory, and brand consistency.
  • Ability to work with both print production processes and digital design specifications.
  • Interest and experience in crafting creative content for social media and digital platforms.
  • Strong attention to detail, creativity, and the ability to conceptualize effective design solutions.

Jr. Art Director Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain visual design standards that reflect Gilman’s brand identity across all media platforms.
  • Collaborate with internal departments such as Admissions, Advancement, and Auxiliary Services to deliver creative design solutions that meet project objectives.
  • Manage design projects from inception to completion, including estimating costs, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring timely delivery.
  • Produce creative designs for print materials, including newsletters, brochures, posters, invitations, and signage, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines.
  • Oversee the creation of visual content for the annual fund, advertisements, admissions collateral, alumni materials, and event programs.
  • Supervise external agencies and contractors for printing projects, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Capture and edit photographs of campus events for use in marketing materials.
  • Create easy-to-use design templates in platforms such as Canva, Google Slides, and Adobe Creative Suite for non-design staff.
  • Utilize design tools to craft engaging content for social media platforms and digital storytelling.
  • Maintain a high standard of quality and creativity in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
