Ensuring your resume is in tip-top shape is a task. And why is that writer’s block kicks in when it comes to talking about yourself? You are the only one who can properly convey what you do in your positions as well as explain what you have accomplished. Additionally, it is one thing to list out your day-to-day responsibilities and skills, but to show quantitative results and present your accomplishments is another. Check out our article on creative resume tips in which we touch on quantifying your results along with other pertinent tips.
What to Put on My Resume for Marketing Jobs?
In the case of creating or updating your resume for marketing jobs, focus on the metrics you reported throughout campaigns. Digital marketing metrics are used to measure the success and progress of the campaigns within your marketing strategy. Reaching these numbers is an accomplishment not only in your job but in your career. By adding metrics and results, you are showing your ability to effectively work within a position and make an impact. Why not share your stellar marketing metrics with hiring managers and recruiters?
“Employers need numbers to be able to fully evaluate the scope of your bandwidth,” Tina Nicolai, executive career coach and founder of Résumé Writers’ Ink, told Business Insider. “No position is exempt from measuring results. And metrics help employers determine if a person is capable of leading a team, managing clients, or growing the business.”
Numbers are important. Make sure you are including the most accurate and most appropriate ones on your resume before you start your job search. You are more likely to stand out to hiring managers and recruiters when your resume highlights some of the following digital marketing metrics:
Conversion rates
How many people downloaded the white paper you included in an email marketing campaign? How many people referred a friend to your service? The answers to these questions are great metrics to include in your resume, provided that they are positive. However, it can be difficult to judge what makes for an exceptional conversion rate. Wordstream noted that a good conversion rate is somewhere between 2 and 5 percent. Look through some of your top campaigns and select a metric that shows off your skills and proves your value to an organization.
Traffic growth
The number of eyes you bring to a website is another valuable number to include in your resume. Google Analytics is a great tool to view how much traffic is coming into the website. Select a date range that shows the traffic coming through in response to an initiative you spearheaded, and compare it to your site’s numbers before it was in effect. Including the percentage of website growth in your resume can be especially beneficial for those looking into online marketing jobs, where traffic growth is often the main objective.
Customer retention
It is great to have a high conversion rate and growth in website traffic as a result of your efforts. What’s more, pay attention to the number of repeat visitors. Check your analytics to see how many returning visitors you have, and the customers continuing to do business with your company. If you are able to tie these numbers back to your initiatives, include these numbers in your resume. These numbers show skills in effective branding and customer retention.
Social reach
In social media marketing, one of your main responsibilities is to grow your brand’s social reach. Social media metrics include follower growth, engagement rates, reach, and impressions. Take note of the growth in any of these areas to see if you are able to tie back to your efforts. Talk about any specific social media campaigns that did especially well and try to include a variety of social media outlets to demonstrate your range.
Mobile visitors
Chances are that your next marketing job will require experience with mobile marketing – especially if you are seeking a digital marketing job. Mobile marketing metrics include keeping track of the number of mobile users that you target with your initiatives and how you were able to accommodate these users. Doing so will show rather than tell a recruiter how much you know about responsive design and mobile-friendly elements, which are major skills to have.
