A mission-driven national association serving a dynamic and evolving industry is hiring a Senior Marketing Manager in McLean, VA for a 6-month contract position, with the possibility of converting to full time (conversion is not guaranteed). This is a hybrid opportunity, with a 3 day, in-office presence required on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

This role is ideal for a hands-on, experienced marketer who’s ready to jump in, bring clarity to chaos, and take full ownership of campaign execution during a high-impact transitional period. You’ll serve as the sole marketing lead while the organization builds out its department, offering you a rare opportunity to work cross-functionally with senior leadership, shape marketing processes from scratch, and immediately influence how communications reach thousands of industry professionals. With visibility across policy, events, membership, and education (and the ability to create structure where none exists) this role is tailor-made for someone who thrives in fast-paced, high-trust environments and knows how to turn ideas into action.

Sr. Marketing Manager Perks:
  • Department Builder: Step into a pivotal role at the heart of a growing national association. You’ll be the primary marketing lead during a critical transitional period—bringing structure, strategy, and execution to a department that’s being built from the ground up. Your ideas won’t just be heard—they’ll help shape how this organization connects with its members and the broader industry??
  • Cross-Functional Visibility: Collaborate directly with senior leadership across policy, education, membership, events, and industry relations. You’ll operate as a trusted advisor and marketing partner to internal stakeholders, helping align their goals with smart, member-first communications.
  • Balance of Strategy + Execution: Lead the charge on day-to-day campaign execution while also bringing strategic insight to cadence, segmentation, and content planning. This role gives you full ownership over deliverables with the freedom to influence structure and process improvements along the way.
  • Hybrid Work, High Impact: Enjoy a consistent hybrid schedule—on-site Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with remote flexibility on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Be at the center of collaboration, but still have time and space for deep focus and content creation.
  • Competitive Contract Compensation: This is a 6-month contract role starting at $45/hour, depending on experience. It’s designed for high-ownership professionals ready to step in, make an immediate impact, and potentially transition into a long-term role (conversion is possible but not guaranteed).

Senior Marketing Manager Requirements:
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in marketing, communications, or content strategy, with a strong track record of owning projects from start to finish. You’re confident in your ability to lead campaigns independently, set priorities, and drive outcomes without waiting for direction.
  • Experience working within associations, membership-based organizations, or mission-driven environments is strongly preferred. You understand the nuance of communicating with members, navigating internal stakeholders, and promoting value across a broad professional audience.
  • Exceptional multitasking and project management skills. You’re comfortable managing overlapping deadlines, shifting priorities, and a steady stream of inbound requests—all while maintaining high standards and clear communication with internal teams.
  • Expert-level writing and editing ability. Whether you’re crafting an email subject line, building newsletter content, or writing promotional copy for events, you know how to adjust tone, style, and messaging based on audience and platform.
  • Hands-on proficiency with essential marketing tools, including WordPress for web content management, Constant Contact for email campaigns, and Hootsuite for social media scheduling. Familiarity with Cadmium (event content), ZoomInfo (audience data), or AMS platforms like Nimble is a plus—but not required.
  • A natural systems thinker. You thrive in environments that need structure and aren’t afraid to introduce process improvements, build out calendars, or streamline workflows where gaps exist.
  • Diplomatic communication skills. You know how to advise internal stakeholders, tactfully say “no” when priorities conflict, and offer solutions that maintain momentum while protecting campaign effectiveness.
  • Proactive, collaborative, and confident. You’re comfortable being the go-to marketing person in a lean environment and know how to stay calm, curious, and focused in times of ambiguity or organizational change.

Senior Marketing Manager Responsibilities:
  • Take full ownership of day-to-day marketing execution across the organization. You’ll be stepping into a high-visibility role during a leadership transition and are expected to lead with confidence, speed, and precision while broader strategic hires are underway.
  • Write and deploy email marketing campaigns that drive registrations, promote programs, and support communications across events, advocacy, education, and member engagement. Your messaging will directly impact participation and visibility across the organization’s initiatives.
  • Lead content planning and production of a daily member newsletter. You’ll coordinate with internal teams to source timely information, organize layout, write compelling copy, and ensure consistent delivery to members.
  • Maintain and update website content using WordPress, including landing pages related to events, sponsors, research, and general membership. You’ll help ensure content is current, clean, and aligned with campaign messaging.
  • Plan, create, and schedule social media content using Hootsuite across relevant channels. You’ll help elevate the organization’s online presence, ensure alignment across platforms, and increase digital engagement with members and industry partners.
  • Build and manage a centralized marketing calendar that maps out all outbound communications, helping internal teams coordinate timelines, avoid email fatigue, and maintain consistent audience touchpoints across the organization.
  • Collaborate with departments to produce marketing materials and business development assets such as sponsorship decks, event prospectuses, and one-pagers that support revenue-driving initiatives and member outreach.
  • Drive promotion and engagement strategy for two upcoming event launches, along with ongoing support for recurring webinars and virtual education programming. You’ll ensure each campaign is well-timed, audience-specific, and performance-informed.
  • Provide internal guidance on best practices around segmentation, messaging cadence, content prioritization, and delivery methods, helping the organization evolve its approach to communication as it grows.
  • Introduce consistency, structure, and clarity to all aspects of marketing operations. From building templates to identifying content gaps, you’ll help turn an informal system into a repeatable, scalable framework.
